Book Dedication

Seeing the grass bleached near your house can be a fascinating experience for a 9-year-old. But the release from a fire at the chlorinated dry bleach manufacturing facility that made it happen left a lifelong impression on Louisa Nara.  It also led her to become a Chemical Engineer and subsequently focus on Process Safety as a Career.

Louisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from West Virginia University and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from Villanova University. During her career, she worked at various chemical and specialty chemical companies.

Imagine if you will, a person who has been, throughout the course of a career: 1) Process Safety and Crisis Manager for a plant, 2) a successful author, 3) legal department consultant for a major international company, 4) training developer, 5) instructor, and 6) unfailingly energetic advocate for process safety.  I think you would call this individual an extraordinary person.  We call her – Louisa Nara.

Louisa has accomplished all of this in her remarkable career.  She is indeed an extraordinary individual.  More importantly, she is a great friend, and role model for the process safety community worldwide.

Louisa Nara was recognized as one of the Legends of Process Safety in 2023.  She is a CCPS certified (CCPSC™), a recognition as one of the world’s leading subject matter experts.  She is also a CCPS Fellow.

Benefiting from great mentors early in her career, Louisa continued this tradition, inspiring countless students and professionals with her optimistic demeanor and unwavering support.  Even after retiring as CCPS Global Technical Director in 2023, she continues to teach and volunteer for various CCPS initiatives.

This book is dedicated to Louisa Nara, who embodies the CCPS Vision of “A World without Process Safety Incidents.”  Her passion, achievements, and tireless dedication have not only advanced the field but have also touched the lives of many.
